UGANDA KICKS OFF PREPARATIONS FOR DIGITAL GOVERNMENT AFRICA SUMMIT 2026

Friday, November 28, 2025. Following the announcement made in Lusaka, Zambia, in October 2025, NITA-U has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Africa Brains, the official organiser of the Digital Government Africa Summit (DGA). The signing marks the start of preliminary engagements as preparations for the highly anticipated event move into full gear.

The summit will be hosted by the National Information Technology Authority, Uganda (NITA-U), on behalf of the Government of Uganda, and will take place in Kampala from October 6–7, 2026.

The Digital Government Africa Summit is the continent’s premier ministerial platform dedicated to accelerating public-sector digital transformation. It brings together policymakers, innovators, and private-sector leaders to exchange insights, forge strategic partnerships, and align national initiatives with the African Union’s Digital Transformation Strategy (2020–2030).

Dr. Hatwib Mugasa, Executive Director of NITA-U, expressed enthusiasm about Uganda's role in the summit, stating, "NITA-U’s involvement in the Digital Government Africa Summit 2026 validates our ongoing efforts as the leading driver of ICT transformation in Uganda. Being selected to host such a prestigious and influential summit is a powerful recognition of the significant progress we have made in building a robust digital government ecosystem."

John Glassey, Chief Executive Officer of Africa Brains, also shared his excitement: "We are thrilled to collaborate with the Government of Uganda to host the summit and look forward to engaging in meaningful discourse about building digitally empowered governments across Africa."

The summit will convene representatives from various African governments to foster impactful engagements and partnerships on digital governance, e-government transformation, and innovation in public service delivery.

As Uganda prepares to take center stage at this pivotal event, all eyes will be on the summit to outline the path forward for digital government initiatives across the continent.
