NITA-U exhibits at World Bank Group - Government of Uganda Open Day
NITA-Uganda participated in the inaugural World Bank Group - Government of Uganda Open Day held on 30th May, 2017 at Kololo Independence Grounds.
The event held under the theme “Partnering for Development” aimed at sensitizing the public about the benefits and impact of the various World Bank-financed projects in Uganda.
NITA-U exhibited a number of initiatives under the World Bank-funded Regional Communication Infrastructure Programme (RCIP). This Programme aims at transforming public service delivery and improving lives of Ugandans through use of ICT.
This shall be through lowering of prices for international capacity and extension of the geographic reach of broadband networks across the Country. The Project shall also improve Government’s efficiency and transparency through e-Government applications. Implementation of RCIP has been underway for about 1 year (since May 2016) and is expected to continue till 2022.
Speaking at the side-lines of event, the NITA-U Executive Director James Saaka said; “We will see faster and cheaper implementation of e-Government services resulting from not having to duplicate infrastructure at individual government units by providing a shared platform for hosting such services which will cover data integration facilities, common infrastructure (data centre, storage and communication infrastructure) and security for IT systems”
He added that through greater use of e-Government services, Government units will be able to serve citizens better and provide greater and timely access to public services and information. This shall result in improved transparency and efficiency of government procedures and practices
As part of the exhibition NITA-U provided free Wi-Fi #MYUG to all participants and guests for the entire duration of the event.
