Innovation Acceleration Dialogue #IAD2016

The Government of Uganda through NITA-U and its Stakeholders seeks to establish an innovation center of excellence to spur innovation within the Government and the private Sector.

 

This will enable efficient delivery of Government services, promote and accelerate budding innovations across all sectors through a one stop centre for innovations.

 

NITA-U with guidance from the Ministry of ICT, is organized an “Innovation Acceleration Dialogue” workshop on 21st July 2016 at International Science, Business and Technology (ISBAT) University, Kampala. (Lugogo bypass). The workshop was supported by Swedish International Developmental Agency (SIDA), the World Bank and its knowledge partners Avasant.

 

The objective of the workshop was to gain a clear understanding of the current status of Uganda`s innovation ecosystem, conceptualize and institutionalize an Innovation Center of Excellence (ICOE) as a viable solution to the current bottlenecks in the innovation arena.

 

This is expected to result in a consensus based suggestion on an innovation center institutional and operational model relevant to Ugandan context.

 

The workshop  included speakers from the US, South Korea and Kenya and representations from the public sector, donor agencies, innovation hubs, innovators, and accelerators, NGOs, Academia and key entrepreneurs in the country.

 

From the dialogue key international innovation experts together with Ugandan stakeholders within the innovation ecosystem discussed the establishment of an Innovation COE and conceptualize on the best preferred ICOE model for Uganda to be adopted

to drive the ICT innovation agenda forward.
